I've heard rumors that it is no longer possible to send any food to the US
using the postal service since 2004. However, looking around the internet I
could not find any evidence of this.

There is a new requirement for commercial food importers to register with the
FDA (since mid December 2003), however, that regulation does not seem to apply
to private people.

Anybody can shed some light on this (with respect to sending food using postal
services AND if anything changed with respect to bringing food when traveling
to the US), preferably with links to articles and/or laws/rules.

P.S.: there have always been restrictions regarding meat, fruits
      and some other foods, I'm interested in recent changes.
