swiss-list: postdoc in France

Post-doctoral position available

A post-doctoral position for an electrophysiologist is available in the
Laboratory of Neuropharmacology (J.C. Michaud, I.A. Lefevre) at Sanofi
Recherche in Montpellier (France). Experience in conventional
intracellular micro-electrode recording in brain slices is essential,
but any additional skill such as in vivo electrophysiology, imaging or
patch-clamp techniques would be advantageous.

The position is available from January 1st 1998 for 12-18 months for
French citizens (Sanofi or Elf-Aquitaine contracts); contracts of longer
duration can however be obtained for other Europeans (Elf-Aquitaine
International contracts).

The laboratory provides the electrophysiological contribution to Central
Nervous System projects, which mainly concern G-protein coupled membrane
receptors, and also include studies from other fields, including
chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and animal behaviour.

The major interest in the laboratory is the study of the modulation of
neuronal activity by neuropeptides (e.g., cholecystokinin, neurotensin,
tachykinins...). The development of appropriate experimental models is
also used to evaluate the effects of new non-peptide compounds, that act
as agonists or antagonists of neuropeptide receptors. The interaction
between these receptors and the various channels and receptors which
control neuronal excitability is analysed electrophysiologically at
three levels: single cells, brain slices, and anaesthetised animals. The
following selection of recently published work illustrates the diversity
of topics under investigation.

SR140333, a novel, selective and potent non-peptide antagonist of the
NK1 tachykinin receptor : characterization on the U373MG cell line.
