Well, not for the student plan, but for a special visitor plan that is quite
costly.
The International Center has a lot of leaflets of about 20 plans for
visiting scholar health insurance. Take them and compare them extensivly.
They differ both in terms of coverage and cost and there are some good plans
for less than Stanford's plan. All, except Stanford, will not cover you
during your visits to Switzerland however.

Other solutions are:
-get your swiss insurance to cover you abroad:either only emergencies, ie no
births or maybe everything (some do, some don't)
-get full private worldwide insurance (Loga and some others provide this
including the Auslaenderfond). The coverage is
excellent, put prices are expensive.
-change to a research associate position as quickly as possible. Then the
excellent stanford employee plan will cover you.
-get a work permit for the J2 spouse (takes about 2 to 3 months) and work
(takes another 2 to 3 months) and enroll in his/her plan instead.

Hope this helps
Michael
