Hi Nico,

I extended my H1-B in Bern last fall and had no problems, or delays. Same
with my wife, she had to extend her H4. Besides having to wait for 4 hours
in the cold (x-Mas) she had no problems getting her extension.
I would suggest to call the embasyy and check with them directly.
Saluti,

Stefano

Subject: swiss-list: what's the latest on H1-B renewals?

Hi all,

My current H1-B is expiring, and I have the approval notice for the
extension. However, I am worried about getting the stamp into my passport
outside the states for the fear of getting stuck. Just yesterday, someone
told me of a spanish H1-B applicant stuck in Spain since Christmas. Although
she has an approval notice, the authorities somehow refuse to put the stamp
into the passport, citing need for a "background check". And this is not the
first time I hear such a story since 9/11.

I know that you can mail your stuff to Washington, and it takes a number of
months that you have to be without your passport (which is unsettling as
well). Have any of you done this? How long did it take? Do you think it is a
good alternative if you have no travel plans for the next 6 months?

thanks for your advice

Nico
