Well, I can't resist pointing out that Switzerland
a) Was in its early years employing tactics that some probably would
describe as "terrorist" (the Morgarten ambush, Winkelried as a "suicide
empaler").
b) Has a political party (CVP) in government whose official goals
include the propagation of a religious world view in political life.
c) Has had some amount of terrorism in recent decades (on both sides of
the Jura question, for instance).
However, there has not been any terrorism directed against the U.S.
that I know of (Luckily, the U.S. did not hear about the Jura
controversy in time to meddle in it).

On a more serious note, as far as I know, the rules, as unpleasant as
they are, apply to everybody, and the U.S. can hardly be expected to
make an exception for the Swiss (even the embassy in Bern is used by
nationals of a variety of countries). I'd rather like to see them adopt
saner policies for everyone, but I'm not too optimistic.
Personally, I'm thinking of trying to do the next Visa stamp renewal in
an US embassy in Canada (My understanding is that in that case, it's
still possible to pick up the passport in person).
