I have still a banking account in Switzerland (Raiffeisen) and I am
writing myself a personal check to the Swiss bank account if I need it.
Then I'll use that account to do payments in Switzerland and Europe
(internationale Bankzahlungen).
Wire transfer costs are a rip off. I did it once and it did cost me $45
to transfer money from Bank of America to my Swiss banking account. That
is when I tried personal checks and as far as I remember the Swiss bank
takes about Sfr 6 - which was the total overall cost. It takes about a
week or more to transfer the money, but that works out usually well
enough for me.
