[I hope with this informative email we can end this thread. Thanks
for all the emails, the moderator]

As several others have stated, the information is bogus, especially in
regard to dual citizenship Swiss & US.

I hope to add to the thread by adding comments about possible REASONS
that this urban legend keeps resurfacing from time to time:

The most important fact is that you can never, ever lose your Swiss
citizenship. Even if the USCIS would collect your Swiss passport, you
could always return to Switzerland (perhaps with some complications) and
reclaim your Swiss citizenship.

_This not true, however, for all countries._

Some countries would consider that you are not their citizen anymore and
treat you as an American/foreigner. The US government indirectly warns
about that fact on their website* and in publications.

Some other countries might require you to "turn in the Swiss passport",
if you immigrate there, but again, the Swiss would still look at you as
a Swiss citizen if you come back.

Some American lawyers may only know the general answer, and not the
Swiss particulars. This is probably were the legend comes from.

* For details, see
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1753.html

The web site (of the Department of State) says:
"... U.S. law does not [...] require a person
to choose one citizenship or another."

The website of the Swiss government is
http://dmzwg1-002.eda.admin.ch/pretoria_emb/e/home/chinsa/chcs.html

It says:
"Switzerland recognizes dual citizenship. [...] Swiss citizens
registered [abroad] who acquire [another] citizenship are asked to
inform the Embassy [...] about this for keeping the registration records
up to date.

Well, the Swiss have always be known to be accurate and keeping good
records!
