Hello,

As we were waiting for our Green Card a couple years ago, we too got an
Advanced Parole to be able to travel out & back to the USA - this is the only
way to do it in order to avoid the dangerous "in limbo" situation - and yes,
you don't want to be in this situation! We used it for our vacations in
Switzerland, it went all well - so this document is not for emergency
  situations only.

As already expressed by many people on the Swiss list, I doubt that you'll
get the Advanced Parole document back within 3-4 weeks, though - I seem to
remember that it took us ca. 1,5-2 months to get it (and that was about 2-3
years ago) - we did it via a lawyer from one of our employer.

  Good luck! Christine
