Hello
As you all know, no direct flight connection between San Francisco and Zurich
is offered (any more). Before its collapse, Swissair ran a non-stop MD-11
service between SFO and ZRH seven times a week.
I think it’s time to propose Swiss/Lufthansa a re-evaluation of a direct
service between SFO and ZRH for the following reasons:
- Collaborations between Northern Californian and Swiss corporations and
educational institutions have intensified. For example, San Francisco and
Zurich have become "sister cities", ETH Zurich and UC Berkeley have an
agreement for scientific cooperation and Swissnex fosters partnerships
between Switzerland and Western USA/Canada.
- Since the acquisition by Lufthansa, Swiss now has a stronger financial
back-up and may be more able to invest in additional hardware for new
destinations.
Assuming a trip duration of 11hours at most, a direct service between the two
cities would result in time savings of at least 2 hours for a traveler to
Zurich. In addition, a direct service may attract additional travelers choosing
Zurich as their preferred hub for their flight connections.
I kindly ask you to offer and share your thoughts and opinions about this
subject. One potential way to go would be collecting names of supporting people
and companies who would be interested in a direct flight between SFO and ZRH
and handing in a petition for the attention of Swiss/Lufthansa. Do you propose
any other activities?
