swiss-list: Swiss/US compensation and tax info

Dear Swisslisters,

I have a question regarding compensation and tax issues in a Swiss/US context.

I'm a co-owner of a young management consulting firm that includes a focus
on sustainability (strategic analysis, project management, communication)
with offices in Zurich and Boston (www.sustainserv.com). As a small
transatlantic company, we are running into a number of administrative
issues that we need to clear up without spending a lot of resources on
that. The most pressing issues for us are:

- How do you compare compensation on both sides? The co-owners of our
company live partly in Switzerland, partly in the US. We need to compare
compensation (including benefits like health care in the US, or PK payments
in Switzerland) between the owners. Are there simple formulas for that (for
example in spread sheet form) that we could use?

- Concerning taxes, how does one file personal taxes with part of the
income on the Swiss side and part on the US side. For example, income in
the US is paid out after tax withholding (with part of the withholding for
social security, if I understand correctly). How does one declare that part
of the income in Swiss tax filing (amount before withholding, after
withholding, or something in between)? And what rules apply to corporate
taxes for Swiss/US companies (e.g. declarations of income/loss of one
entity in the books of the other if there is cross-holding).

Any information on these issues would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you
know an accountant or similar advisor who could help us moderately-prices
support on these issues, we'd be very grateful if you could let us know.

Thanks!
Bernd Kasemir
