Martin,

I faced the same questions some years ago and can give you the following input:

According to the "Guide For a Successful Start As a Swiss Student or Scientist
in The United States of America", by the Office of Science and Technology of
the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington DC, the Swiss federal diploma in
pharmacy (eidg. dipl. Apotheker) "may be considered to be a degree comparable
to a first professional degree in pharmacy in the US".

The question is what is a first professional degree in pharmacy in the US? Some
colleges issue the BPharm as the first prof. degree whereas other institutions
(nowadays the majority) have the PharmD as an entry degree.

I would clearly rule out the BPharm, which is based on a 3-year curriculum.

In contrast, the US PharmD is very clinic oriented and may not correspond so
well with the Swiss diploma.

What remains is the MSc in Pharmacy (not Pharmaceutical Sciences!). I
personally prefer this "solution" as it also reflects the new MSc degree, which
is going to be issued in CH after implementation of the Bologna reform.

By the way, if you have a PhD or are planning to get one, I would still include
the MSc (Pharm) as it highlights your background. Physicians in the US with an
MD, PhD do also not skip the MD...

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Markus
