Hi Vaughn,

A great site (also listed in the Swiss-List hompeage directory:
http://www.swiss-list.com/links/Returning_to_Switzerland/ )
is comparis.ch . It offers a wealth of comparative information about health
plans, carriers, comparisons, etc. There are also informations about car
insurance, mortgages, etc.

As far as I know, Swiss employers don't subscribe to global health plans for
their employees. Some do however subsidize insurance coverage plans, but the
choice of the carrier is left up to the employee. Employers however DO COVER
accident premiums, so only those withouth an employer have to cover this risk.

There are basically two levels for coverage:

- LAMAL which is the basic mandatory coverage, but with widely varying
prices depending on carrier; there is a mandatory out-of-pocket participation
which I think moved up to 300 CHF / year.
_ LCA which is broad spectrum of additional health coverage, with several
different plans per carrier, and which is not mandatory

It's pretty easy to go through and understand the basic coverage layer, close
to a nightmare when it comes to the additional plans (provided one is not
willing to incur great expenses for health coverage...).

Health insurance is a hot political and social topic right now in Switzerland.
Basically, health care is of high quality, but of course increasing
consumption and escalating costs take their toll on the premiums.

Greetings,

Marc-Olivier
