Cornelius,

An ETH, Uni or HSG degree in Switzerland translates to a Masters degree.

A Bachelors Degree in the US is a 4-year college degree, i.e. in order to be
considered a Bachelors, a foreign degree would have to be a 4 year degree
from a higher education institute. Before the HTL and HWV schools were
merged and their programs were extended from 3 to 4 years, it was extremely
difficult to get a HTL or HWV degree recognized as Bachelors, at least at
American universities. I had that problem after I graduated from the
Technikum in Winterthur and tried to get accepted to a Master's program (for
which a Bachelors degree is prerequisite) at an American university. There
were only a handful of schools that would accept HTL degrees as Bachelors.
Since the HTL and HWF schools are now FH (Fachhochschule) with 4 year
programs, this conversion should be much more straight forward.

The conversion of "Berufslehre" degrees is more difficult. Schools in the US
would not consider that a Bachelors. You may be able to "sell" is as an
Associates degree, which is a 2 year community college degree.
The private sector looks a things a little differently. In many cases, a
persons experience is more important than a degree. You probably could
compare your background to a Bachelors education, you will have to explain
exactly what it is that you learned, what kind of work you are doing with
this type of education, and why you think this compares to a Bachelors. In
order for an employer to know whether or not to hire you, they need to know
exactly what you are capable of doing for them.

Good luck,
Roger
