Hi there,

I'm going through the process right now. It takes about 6w to get an
appointment. Of course you can do so before returning to CH, but since
you need to call a 0900 number, this can also be done from within CH.
Have a good friend call, because it ain't cheap :) My parents ended up
spending 90SFr (~2.5SFr/min, even when waiting in line to have somebody
take the call).

Once you get to the Embassy, the process is pretty much as it used to
be, assuming you have the right pictures (there are new picture
guidelines, I suggest that you take official passport pics in the US, as
the regular Swiss onces are too small!).

One other caveat, if you ever had a run-in with the law, where your
fingerprints were taken (i.e. DUI, reckless driving, fight, ...) the
Embassy will not issue a Visa without requesting your file from
Washington, a process that will add 4-8weeks.

Also, you might have to hurry up to get treatment mentioned above. An
Embassy clerk told me that soon (a few months from now, I believe) Visa
requests or not satisfied by the Embassy, but forwarded to Washington
where they are granted. Therefore, adding 4-8weeks to the process as
well.

In conclusion, you might want to consider applying for the new Visa
while in the US, a process that takes about two month right now.

felix
