I actually got to keep my old passport. When they received the new one at the Consulate they gave me a call and I sent them my old one for cancellation. Time without passport: 7 days.

Has anyone gone through the application for the new Swiss passport yet? If
yes, how long did it take for you to get your new passport, from the time
you submitted your application? I submitted mine in person at the SF
consulate about 4-5 weeks ago, but haven't heard back yet. They said it
could take up to 6 weeks. Is that so? Just feels a little weird being
without that little red "sense of security" booklet. Darius
