I hope I did this reply thing correctly.

Ms. Wiggers reply was perfect and I agree with everything. I only have one
thing to add about the SAT's.

If the reason for taking them is college admission it might be helpful to
check with admissions first. Often they will require them only for
'freshman' but won't require them for transfer students. If you are coming
from a culture other than 'white' middle and upper class America, SAT's
might hinder your admission more than help ...

Also, check with a local junior (two year) colleges in the area you plan on
living. They often, not only offer ESL classes, but basic "below" English 1
classes (basic grammar etc.) for which you may qualify. Having completed a
liberal arts degree (AA) in a junior college and transferred from there (to
a 4 year school) I recommend taking regular English classes at a junior
college. ESL classes aren't all that ... just my opinion after talking to
many international students who were forced to take ESL classes.
