Hi Anne,

Well, at first sight, this document by the American
SSA you sent me really reads as if both countries
would take into account credits earned in the other
country. But after taking a closer look and after
reading other documents, I don't think that we can
avoid having an AHV/AVS "gap" simply by paying US
Social Security taxes. It says even in this document
that the Swiss System does NOT look at our American
credits when computing our AHV/AVS pension.
Actually, on the AHV/AVS side, the agreement only
seems to benefit Americans who have worked in the US
and then go to work in Switzerland, but it does not do
anything for people like me who have worked in
Switzerland and then move to the US.

It would have been too good to be true...

Leonore
