I know that you can get Social Security and live abroad, as
1) an american citizen
2) a minimum of 10 years of payments.

You can get Social Security back if you are in the country with a J-1 visa and
your american sponsor pays your salary, check one of the IRS booklet for foreign
students or teachers, I have seen it ....
