DISCLAIMER: Any opinion expressed by a contributor is to be considered his/her own personal opinion, not the opinion of any other swiss-list member, the swiss-list website managers or the swiss-list committee.
Truthfully, I think it would be hard to designate a "greatest
country on the planet" because there are a number of countries
which would qualify according to the criteria (alternately, it
would be much easier to find the "biggest hellhole on the
planet"!).
I've lived in this country a lo-n-g time but still think of myself
as "Swiss". The US has a lot going for it (most of it
geographically and resource related) and even though I've
frequently considered moving back to CH (except for my 2 kids and a
cousin on the east coast, all my family is in CH), I remember my
experience when I was 19 and decided to spend a year there. After
6 mos. I was ready to come back to the US because of the "fueddli
buerger" (made sense when I spelled it phonetically but it might
not seem apparent to you!) attitudes I encountered. Granted, this
could have been because I was in a town instead of in a city but
I've found that Americans are more open and more willing to accept
you as who you are as opposed to what you do. On the other hand,
the lack of common sense and logic in this country at all levels
drives me bonkers!
