One variant I haven't seen mentioned yet is the Dot-Com way.

I have used PayPal.com successfully to transfer small sums from and to
friends in Switzerland, and if you want a more conventionally
backed venture, there is also CityBank's c2it.

Both of them have relatively complex rules as to what kinds of transfers
are free, but if you pick the right service and transfer type, you might
get away with paying considerably smaller fees than what I've seen
mentioned here, and the transfers are fairly fast.
