swiss-list: Question about H-1B (in Switzerland)

Can anybody help my with some questions about H-1B visa?

I am currently at UC Berkeley with a J-1 visa.

I have been hired as a Faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and I will
start my appointment on January 7th 2002. The INS received my H-1B
application on October 10. I would like to visit Switzerland during
Christmas holidays. For that, I understand that I need to get the INS
approval before leaving the US. I also understand that the international
house of the University of Pittsburgh needs to file a I-824 form to inform
the embassy in Switzerland. Is it right?

Does anybody know how much time it takes to the INS to notify the US
embassy in Bern?

How long does it take for the US embassy in Switzerland to process the visa
in order to get the sticker in the passport? Is it a similar process to
the J-1 visa (Is it possible to leave the application in the morning and
to pick up the passport in the afternoon) ?

Thank you very much

Stephane
