Hi

For re-validating visa's (after you have the I-797 notice of approval) while in
the US see http://travel.state.gov/revals.html. I did it once, it took a moth.
But now they say 8 weeks. See web site.

Once you get this, you can stay in the US for as long as the I-797 allows you to without needing a new visa stamp in your passport. Without the I-797 notice of renewal, you need to leave the country within 10 days of expiration, I believe (not 100% sure).

You can either get this in the US (I don't know how long it takes, but probably as long as it took to get the extension....other please correct me if I am wrong) OR get it abroad (any consulate able to issue non-immigrant visas can do it). Be sure to get a multiple-entry stamp!
