The Conseil Fédérale decided yesterday to lower the nominal value of Swiss
shares to 1 centime. This was done as part of the new law on mergers ((loi
sur les fusions). This decision is final and needs no further approval by
Parliament. The new loi sur les fusions is also a significant simplification
from the past and will help the creation and growth of small and medium
enterprises as well as simplify and lower costs for large corporations. (see
l'agefi 14.6.00 pages 1, 2 and 4.)
After the recent change of OFAS regulations allowing Pension Funds to invest
in venture capital and to increasingly invest outside Switzerland, this is
the second major acceptance of Le Réseau's 7 point program.
We still have three major issues to solve: the taxation of Options,
increased work permits for high-tech personnel and multiple taxation of
private investors in VC Funds.
