Hi Louis & Uli,

   remember our discuss on the Swiss-List on Feb 10 talking about "No
taxes with J1", your replies from back then are inserted below.

   I *FINALLY* ;) had time to look into the respective documents
(essentially "1999 Publ 519 U.S. Tax Guide for Aliens"
http://ftp.fedworld.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p519.pdf and "US-CH Double Taxation
Agreement" at http://www.swissemb.org/legal/) and:

==> could *NOT* find any legal basis to be exempt (not to pay federal
taxes) as J-1 (resp. get them back from IRS)

   This might have changed in '98/'99 with the new Double Taxation
Agreement as some people on the list have suggested. -- If anybody has
better information INCLUDING LEGALY VALID REFERENCE please let us all
know ASAP...
