swiss-list: Those pesky “ä’s”, “ö’s” and “ü’s”

Thanks again to all who responded to my survey. I will contact some of
you in the next few days.

Meanwhile, a little e-mail problem some of you might have encountered as
well:
When I write an e-mail in German, because of the umlauts, I usually
write it in MSWord and paste the text along with all the “ä’s”, “ö’s”
and “ü’s” into my e-mail program (Eudora). I did the same with this
message as a test, since it seems that a very few of my correspondents
do not receive the ASCII characters, but get code (=F6, =FC) instead.

Does any among you know how to fix this for sure (since I can’t see how
a message arrives at the other end, and some of those ever-polite Swiss
might be reluctant to tell me)?

Sarah
