best known American science-fiction writers, specialists in autonomous
robotics and human augmentation, one of the pilots of the Mars robots
Spirit and Opportunity, and listen to them debating how fiction

«From Fiction to Science : AUTOMATONS»

(Re)discover the Swiss automaton tradition, through the art and craft
of Francois Junod and his magician-automaton. Dave Grossman, Stanford
University, will present the history of these robots-ancestors in his
"Strangely Animated Machines".

The evening will begin with a short presentation of both the House of
Elsewhere in Yverdon, Switzerland, and the Science-Fiction Museum and
Hall of Fame in Seattle, WA, the first science-fiction museums in the
world.

A fascinating round-table discussion on "Art imitating Life imitating
Art" will be joined by Greg Bear, president of the board of the Seattle
Science Fiction Museum, Greg Benford, physics professor at UC Irvine
and science-fiction writer, and Terry Bisson, science-fiction writer.

Why are insects-like robots inspiring fear and evil in science-fiction
novels and films ?

Dario Floreano, professor at EPFL (Switzerland) will demonstrate his
latest advancements in creating robots that use the same collaborative
behavior as flies and ants. Dave Korsmeyer of NASA Ames will talk about
exploration intelligence in the quest of autonomy in space. Rudy
Rucker, professor at SJSU, will address robot consciousness.

A fascinating round-table discussion on "Robots in science-fiction"
will be joined by Greg Bear, president of the board of the Seattle
Science Fiction Museum, Greg Benford, physics professor at UC Irvine

Swiss Astronaut Claude Nicollier will present his experiences with the
robotic arm of the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station.
Gregory Benford, physics professor at UC Irvine will then tell us more
about human augmentation, or man-machine interface on Earth. David
Brin, science-fiction author, will help us peer into tomorrow's world.

A fascinating round-table discussion on "Next steps in Human Evolution"
will be joined by Greg Bear, president of the board of the Seattle
Science Fiction Museum, Terry Bisson, science-fiction writer.

as well as the challenges and results of the mission. He will be
followed by science-fiction writer Kim Stanley Robinson and his vision
of Martian life.

A fascinating round-table discussion on the dialogue between science
and fiction will be joined by Greg Bear, president of the board of the
Seattle Science Fiction Museum,, Greg Benford, physics professor at UC
