Exceptional performance by the renowned and outstanding trio of Swiss
jazz drummer Lucas Niggli. Critically successful both inside and
outside of Europe, the trio ZOOM is comprised of leader Lucas Niggli
(drums), Philip Schaufelberger (guitar) and Nils Wogram (trombone),
three of the greatest hopes of the young European jazz generation.

On a tour that will also see the group halt for two days at the Jazz
House in Berkeley, the ZOOM performance will be the first musical event
hosted by swissnex since its opening in November 2003. Located in
dowtown San Francisco in a space designed by Swiss designer Yves Behar,
swissnex is an annex of the Consulate General of Switzerland, and its
endeavor is to connect the dots between Switzerland and the West in the
domains of science, higher education, arts, and innovation.

This event is co-organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland, the
Goethe Institute San Francisco, and swissnex. It's free of charge, but
please make sure to REGISTER through zoom_at_swissnex.org. Thanks!

Further info on the artists (more on www.lucasniggli.ch):

"The trio ZOOM led by Swiss drummer Lucas Niggli unifies three distinct
and strong-willed musicians of the young jazz generation, influenced by
the most varied musics and blazing their own path through a new
obscurity triggered by postmodernism and other current trends
The outstanding musicianship of German collaborators Philipp
Schaufelberger(guitar) and Nils Wogram(trombone), enables Lucas Niggli
to unify his jazz leanings (the drive, the energy, and the
idiomatic-improvisatory freedom) as well as those for new music (tonal
and interpretational culture).
With intense concentration, this small and agile group speeds through
the heights and depths of todays music: here a nod at tradition, there
a jump into the unknown, always up to tricks - all of which guarantees
that seriousness never turns into solemnity."
"Three artists on a high wire" (Tages Anzeiger, Switzerland)
Highly inspired flights of the imagination: ZOOM" (Neue Z|rcher
Zeitung, Switzerland)
"Niggli keeps the juices going, with oddball meters, quick changes in
direction, and plenty of melody sandwiched between radical rhythms.
Interest never wanes." (Steven A. Loewy, All Music Guide, USA)
