In her vision for the economic plan of the "New Washington", the Governor
will unveil how she will maintain and improve the state's ability to compete
in the global economy." This plan is about a vision for the future of our
state and the steps we must take in order to get there. It's about a
Washington where economic expansion, environmental quality and cultural
diversity work together to create global success," said Governor Gregoire.
The Governor will address the Harvard Business School Club on how the state
is "Open for Business" by being a business friendly state; one that can be
even friendlier by making it easier, and less expensive, to operate a
business here.
Christine Gregoire, the 22nd Governor of Washington State, grew up in rural
Auburn and attended the University of Washington where she graduated with a
teaching certificate and a BA in speech and sociology. She attended law
school at Gonzaga University in Spokane, graduating in 1977, and went to
work as an assistant attorney general in the office of state Attorney
General Slade Gorton. She served as the Director of the Washington State
Department of Ecology and then was elected Attorney General for 3 terms.
Gregoire was elected Governor in November 2004. She and her husband Mike
have two daughters. Courtney is a graduate of Harvard Law School and works
as an attorney in Washington DC. Michelle is a senior in college.
