Dear SHARE friends,
This is the start of a new season of events at SHARE, so please join us for an
exciting seminar with Swiss and American Medtech company representatives,
researchers and venture capitalists who will discuss
"New Business Activities, Research, Venture Capital, Investment in Medical Technologies"
during a panel Discussion at SHARE, Consulate of Switzerland
(www.SHAREBoston.org) on September 15 from 6 to 8:30pm.
In collaboration with Ernst+Young, Location:Switzerland, CIMIT and MDG Boston Forum.
Topics to be discussed:
- Impact of the regulatory system on innovation
- Where does innovation come from (large companies vs. startups; based on
research at hospitals or academic institutions, etc) ?
- What are the current fields receiving interest from large companies as well
as VC ?
- What are the devices that will prove revolutionary ?
- Which are the areas where collaborations make most sense ?
- Trends in VC investments: still money to invest in early-stage companies?
What are the exit strategies?
- Where are the fastest growing markets? Most fertile grounds for innovation?

· Prof Lukas Kappenberger, head of Cardiology, CHUV - University Hospital
Lausanne. Prof Kappenberger is an expert in advanced computer-based virtual
research techniques and currently works in partnership with EPFL and Medtronic

· Andreas Bänziger. CEO HMT High Medical Technologies AG; www.hmt-ag.ch
· Jeff Barnes, partner, Oxford Bioscience www.oxbio.com. Jeff joined the firm
in 1999 after a successful career as an investment banker and entrepreneur.
He received an M.S. degree in biomedical engineering from Duke University and
an M.S. degree from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
· Dr Jonathan Rosen, director of the Office of Technology Implementation at
CIMIT (www.cimit.org). The Center for Integration of Medicine & Innovative
Technology (CIMIT) is a non-profit consortium of world-leading academic and
research institutions. Dr. Rosen comes to CIMIT with over 25 years of medical
device development experience in both large corporations and new ventures.
The event will be moderated by Karin Gregory and Jean Nichols who are the
founder and a partner in Dover Medical Ventures, an early-stage venture capital

In addition, Ernst and Young will present its "Swiss Medical Devices Report"
and economic development officials from several Swiss Cantons will be present
(Zurich and Western Switzerland) to add their insights on developments and
opportunities in Switzerland.
