Watch-Making Wonders: Discovering the history and technology behind
Mechanical and Quartz Watches

Dear Friends of SHARE,
SHARE Boston, the Consulate of Switzerland, and Forum 128, a European
networking group, are pleased to invite you to a special event:

"Watch-Making Wonders: Discovering the history and technology behind
Mechanical and Quartz Watches"

at SHARE Boston on Thursday, December 5th, from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.

The presentation will explore the fascinating history of the watch-making
industry, from mechanical models that date back to the 14th century, to
quartz watches and to other miniature technologies that are currently used
on watches.

Our first expert, Peter Laetsch, is representative of the Federation of the
Swiss Watch Industry. Using graphics and 3D animations, Peter will explain
the developments of the mechanical watch from its origins to its renewed
popularity around the world.

Our second speaker, Moritz Elsaesser, a German born American and Canadian
citizen has had a lifelong passion for watches.Trained at WOSTEP, he finally
made his passion his profession in 1994 and currently co-owns a watch repair
and restoration facility for mechanical and quartz watches in Wellesley, MA.
He is currently the American correspondent for the International Watch and
Clock Museum in La Chaux de Fonds.

Finally Thomas Blackadar, CEO of FitSense will discuss the trends of the
latest technological developments with new watches as instant messengers,
PDA's, cameras, mobile phones...He will take as an example the “Speedometer"
system that gives the runners instant feedback on their speed, distance,
calorie burn and heart rate on a sleek wristwatch.

During the networking session, an 8 minutes video will present an
interactive communicating watch for children who cannot tell time (3 to 6
years old). Prim’ Time Technology will give samples of its watch.
