INTERNATIONAL NANOTECH RECEPTION: OPPORTUNITIES IN THE US AND SWITZERLAND

An evening with Swiss and US Nanotech Experts who are at the crossroad of
university research and startup activity at

Program starts at 6 PM

Described as "leading to the next industrial revolution", nanotechnology is
a field attracting interest from researchers, governments and
businesspersons around the world. We are glad to invite you to participate
in an interactive session with leaders in the field who will share their
insights on the research and commercialization activities in Europe and the
US. About 20 Swiss Nanotechnology experts will participate to this event, as

The panel will feature the following experts:

- Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Guentherodt: "Overview of Research/Commercial
Activities in Switzerland"
Prof. Guentherodt heads the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research
(NCCR) in nanoscience and is responsible for the science of the Top Nano 21
Program as well as for a research group at the Institute of Physics at the
University of Basel/Switzerland.

- Charles Lieber: "Research and startup activities in Nanoelectronics"
Charles M. Lieber is the Mark Hyman, Jr. Professor of Chemistry at Harvard.
Prof. Lieber has pioneered the development of a broad range of new nanoscale
wires, has made seminal contributions to understanding the fundamental
properties of nanotubes and nanowires, and has led efforts organizing these
materials into functional nanoscale electronics and optoelectronics.

- Christoph Westphal: "The road to commercialization: a case study of a
nanotech startup"
Christoph H. Westphal is a general partner the Boston office of Polaris
Ventures where he focuses on investment opportunities in medical technology.
Prior to joining Polaris, Christoph was at the Boston and Los Angeles
offices of McKinsey & Co., working with high-growth biotech, pharmaceutical,
materials science, wireless, and e-commerce companies. He is an MD from
Harvard Medical School and holds a PhD in Genetics under Prof. Phil Leder,
Harvard University.
