Hello Leonore,
I did not have to give up my CH residency, so I do not know if the following
is the same also for you. I went to the AVS office in Switzerland (also
thinking, that I had a 1 year limit to apply) and was told, that you can
make the payments retroactively for the last 5 years.
If I was you I would however call the office in your home-town or the
closest Swiss embassy and ask them.
Michaela

Subject: swiss-list: Voluntary AHV: timing question
Hi all,
I am new to the Swiss list and have an urgent question regarding the
voluntary
AHV contributions program.
As has been mentioned before on this list, if I want to make voluntary
contributions, I have to sign up within one year after leaving the Swiss
compulsory AHV program.
Does anyone know what will count as the date on which I left the compulsory
AHV
in Switzerland?
My last working day in Switzerland? The end of my last working month in
Switzerland? The day I gave up my residency in Switzerland?
Can anyone help me?
My last working day in Switzerland was almost a year ago, on October 2001;
I've
been living in the US since November 2001; however, I've only given up my
Swiss
residency in September of this year. - Thanks in advance for any help with
this
question,
Leonore
(San Francisco)
