Actually, I got my car insured by Zurich Assurances even though
I kept the California license plates. However I think you have a
limited period to register the car with the Swiss DMV (Service des
Autos). The interesting thing is that, although I didn't stay in
Switzerland long enough to actually try it (less than a year: no
need to go through extra admin. hassle), I was told that I could
register my imported car, even though it had:
- no catalytic converter
- a race engine with twin webers
- a straight-through carbon muffler (pretty noisy)
- no windshield, no door, no roof, but 6-point harnesses
- no ABS
- no bumpers
(should I continue listing all the things it does NOT have ? It
weighs 480 kgs and will put a smile on any mechanically inclined
individual --even the cops).
