driving time is about 3 1/2 hours (friday night from Zuerich to Lugano
might be longer)
rail: depending on departure between 3 and 3 1/2 hours.
Phone calls:
If you have a phone that works in Europe, you can get prepaid SIM cards for
any amount at any Kiosk or Swisscom shop.
for international calling I suggest you check the following web site. In my
opinion they have the best rates from the US to Switzerland (haven't checked
or compared other destinations), like 2.7c per minute from the US to
Switzlerand without any conection fees. This website provides search option
from any country to any country and can be ordered on-line.
