swiss-list.com has the ability to host mailing lists. Currently, we host
a general discussion lists for everything that it important for people
living in the US and several regional mailing lists for local events, ...
If you think that we need an additional regional list contact
webmaster@swiss-list.com.
Due to massive spam attacks we had to severly limit the way
emails have to be written in order to accept them (at one point the
hosting provider threatened to shut the whole system down).
Please read the following points carefully:
If you post a message without being a subscriber to the list your email
will be tested by two spam filters. The second one is quite hard to get around,
so chances are you will not be able to post UNLESS you are a subscriber to the list.
All emails to the list must include the name of the list in the subject, in square brackets.
For example, if you want to post to the swiss-list email list you must include
[swiss-list] in the subject line. Note that any replies to an email will automatically
include this code word and will not need special treatment. If you are not sure how to
post an email just use the form at the end of this page which will take care of the
codeword automagically.
Unless explicitly noted otherwise all lists are archived and all
emails are available on the internet for everybody to read. If you
don't want this for your message DON'T send it or send it to
one of the non archived lists (like discussions@swiss-list.com).
As a general policy we will NOT delete any email from the archive
as this involves some major work and breaks all search engines
that have indexed the swiss-list site. Note also that we (the
people running this site) are all volunteers that actually
pay with our own money for it and we much rather add more
features to the site that clean up your messages. We may, if you present a good
case, occasionally anonymize an email message.
If you do not want to have your email address available to
all subscribers and to people reading our archives over the web
please use one of the free email accounts available in numerous
places on the web. Note that we put in
a lot of work to make sure that email addresses are not available
to email harvester.
To make life easier for everyone post in english
(not everyone knows all the four official Swiss languages :-).
Do not post attachments. In particular, do not post emails as word
documents (not everyone can read them, they don't fit very well in
the archive and just use up lots of bandwith and storage space).
In fact, we have a script that will automatically delete all
attachments automatically and also converts html formatted emails
to plain text.
Commercial emails from companies trying to sell stuff are not really
welcome.
Crossposting the same email to two or more lists is in most
cases not acceptable.
You may not Bcc (blind carbon copy) any mailing list. Such emails
are automatically rejected.
Please DO NOT subscribe the mailing lists to another mailing list.
Before posting a job offer please contact our Job Listing
person, Hansjürg Jost

.
IMPORTANT:
Due to an increased number of viruses and scam emails all lists
are moderated. Note also that spam filters are used and might
reject your email as spam. In order to GREATLY improve the chances
that your email gets through the spam filters you should
be subscribed to the mailing list.
