Topic: Next Generation Electric Motors
Electric motors consume half of the world's electricity. Most motors are used in fans, air conditioning units, pumps, and refrigerator compressors. Increasing efficiencies by just 10% could result in over $100B utility savings per year worldwide helping consumers' wallets and drastically reducing the carbon footprint.
Speaker: John Petro, Founder & CTO of NovaTorque, a clean-tech startup in Silicon Valley. John will present the opportunity offered by improving electric motor efficiencies and describe the challenge of raising venture investments for an "old technology" in high-tech Silicon Valley.
Loc: Silicon Valley Bank, 3005 Tasman Drive, Santa Clara, CA 95054
Time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm

We are happy to announce our first social event of 2008:
After a 2.5 hour guided Discovery Tour of the Di Rosa Preserve in Napa, well known for one of the largest collections of contemporary San Francisco Bay Area art in the nation with over 2,200 pieces of art by over 900 regional artists, ( www.dirosapreserve.org ), we will take a short ten minute drive to the Starmont Winery, owned by the Schlatter Family of Switzerland, where you will get a short tour by their winemaking staff discussing sustainable farming, tour the winery that is powered by solar energy and taste some of their award winning wines. A rustic lunch and more wine will be served immediately following the tour. The Schlatter Family agreed to make a special offer for some wines that you will taste at their Starmont winery. Learn more about the winery by visiting www.merryvale.com. Reservation details will follow. (This will initially be a Members-Only event and be made available to non-members if space permits.)
