«« Conversations in Bio : The Future of The Industry »»

A kick off reception at swissnex for UC Berkeley's Global Bio Program
2006 features an intimate, exclusive conversation with Steven Burill,
CEO of Burill and Company and Gregg H. Alton, Senior Vice President
and General Counsel at Gilead Sciences, Inc. Steve and Gregg will
have a one-on-one discussion with the participants of the program to
discuss the future of the bio industry and the leadership qualities
required for success.

Steven Burrill has been involved in the growth and prosperity of the
biotechnology industry for over 35 years. An early pioneer, Mr.
Burrill is one of the original architects of the industry and one of
its most avid and sustained developers. In 2002, Mr. Burrill was
recognized as the biotech investment visionary by the prestigious
Scientific American magazine. He currently serves as Chairman of the
Boards of Pharmasset, and Genomics and is a member of the Boards of
Directors of Catalyst Biosciences, DepoMed, Targacept, and Third Wave
Technologies.

Gregg Alton is responsible for legal affairs as well as Gilead’s
government affairs activities. Mr. Alton is Chairman of the Board of
BayBio, a San Francisco Bay Area life sciences industry organization,
member of the board and treasurer of the Biotechnology Industry

«« Discover Self-Controlled Wine Fermentation Tools & Swiss Wine
Tasting »»

The alcoholic fermentation is an important and defining step in the
wine-making process. The yeast’s activity in transforming sugar into
alcohol leads to a decrease in the liquid’s density. This decrease is
usually monitored with the help of a manual density-meter (one or two
measures per day). These alcoholic fermentation controls take time
and often give varying results. The density-meter “OenoPilot”, which
was developed by HES-SO and offers the winemaker an automatic and
continuous density evolution monitor. This automatic reading is an
advantage that frees up precious time during the busy harvest period.

The presentation about self-controlled alcoholic wine fermentation,
industrialization, practical demonstration, faculty presentation and
testimonial will be followed by Swiss wines tasting, fingerfood and
networking

«« Podium Discussion with Lars Müller and William Stout »»

Two very special and dedicated publishers will engage in a discussion
about the personal passion they feel for creating their wonderful
books. This discussion will cover five Swiss books by Lars Müller,
and five American books by William Stout, and what is involved in
making them. This podium discussion, moderated by Balz Mueller, will
offer the opportunity to learn more about the art of publishing. The
podium discussion will be followed by interactions and conversations
over finger food.

Lars Müller was born in Norway, and has lived in Switzerland since
1963. He opened his studio in Baden in 1982 to produce independent
publications with the best possible finished quality. Lars Müller
Publishers has made a world-wide name for itself with carefully
edited and designed publications on architecture, design, and
contemporary photography.

William Stout started a little-known architectural bookshop on
Montgomery Street over 30 years ago. From its beginnings, his shop
became not only an invaluable resource, but a meeting place for
architects to display projects and ideas. After 20 years of selling
books, Bill Stout decided to make them as well. He began William
Stout Publishing in 1995 with the reissue of important source
documents that had gone out of print.
