just one comment regarding the 401k comments of Michael:

If you are young, you subject yourself to significant currency
uncertainty by leaving the money within the US. Yes, if you are lucky it
will grow at 8-10% per year, but if the dollar devalues against the
Swiss Franc by the time you retire, it will have a negative impact and
might wipe out all the benefits - and possibly more. Keep in mind that
the $ was at CHF 4.- 30-40 years ago...... On the other hand, if the $
(unexpectedly) gains against the CHF, you get a double benefit, but I
personally would not bet on this....
