Madeleine,

go with a Daewoo DVG-5200s DVD player (at Target for ~$50). it can be made
region free (check out http://www.nerd-out.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30647), it
is able to convert PAL DVDs to play on NTSC TVs and vice versa and it also
accepts 110V/220V input voltage. sweet...
