Hi Dan,
I'm a Swiss wife of an American husband, and I pay AHV. I asked them what
happens if I stop working, and got told, that I have to pay AHV of 50% of
my husbands income. So that probably is also true for your wife.
On the other hand, one gets only Social Security payments from the US,
after 10 years of paying, otherwise the money paid in is lost.
