My wife and I did this several times a couple of years ago. Just use an
old bike box; with Swissair we paid SFR 150/bike from Zurich to Boston
Logan and ca. $75/bike from Boston to Zurich. Twice we didn't pay
anything at all from the US - Switzerland.
At Zurich Kloten airport you simply check in the bike at the counter;
they will direct you to the bulk items counter.
