The best way to transfer money is actually using a US check to be
deposited in Switzerland, at ZKB it is a bit cheaper than 10 CHF.
It is not immediateoly though as pointed out.

Postfinance will open an account, however I am not sure that they
do the Check cashing procedure. Credit Suisse offers though
accounts (you may have to declare citizenship for IRS purposes)
and Internet Banking is available worldwide and they keep the
account when leaving the country (as does UBS but not ZKB).
