You can extend your H-1B visa for 110.00 $ and it takes approximately 3
months depending from where you apply, California, Vermont, Nebraska, ....
Or you pay 1'100.00 $ and it only takes 2 weeks. Your lawyer is right, but
he did not tell you the entire story. If you are planning to leave the US
for Christhmas you better be prepared to pay 1'100.00$, because you cannot
reenter the US with an expired H-1B visa.

For additional info's check out the webb, for example:
http://www.immigration.com/ http://www.shusterman.com/ are two pages from
immigratin lawyers, which explain the basics of each visa....

Have fun reading!!
