Lawyers usually discourage non-Canadians to get visas stamped at American
Embassies in Canada. Two friends of mine did it, a Nepales and a German,
both got it. The German guy went to Quebec, a year ago. He took with him a
lot of documents: from University degrees to old visas and passports, ...
Then he did not need anything, but you never know, specially this days!!
You definitely need a letter from your employer.

Good luck,
Corinna

Subject: swiss-list: Renewing H-1B Visa on passport

Has anyone renew his H-1B Visa stamped on his swiss passport through a US
Consulate in Canada (e.g. Vancouver) ?
Is there anything I should be aware besides getting the appointment ?
I am planning travel arrangements and it would be really silly if I forgot a
document that I was not aware (I heard they can ask for birth certificates
?!).
Personal experiences are welcome.
Thank you.
