swiss-list: AVS/AI (AHV/IV): HELP!!!

Hi everybody,

I'm in Seattle under a H-1b visa, working as a post-doc in a private
company and being payed by this company.

I did send a form to the Swiss Consulate in Montreal in order to continue
to pay the AVS/AI (AHV/IV). I was pretty amazed yesterday when I did
receive the bill (around 10% of my salary (before US tax...)...).
I was wondering what you guys are doing concerning the AVS/AI (AHV/IV). I
guess that those who are payed by the Swiss foundation do not have to worry
about it... but what about those who like me are under a H-1b visa.

Could you please give some information, tips and advices about what to do?
Would you pay this or would you avoid paying during 2-3 years (-2.3% per
year and impossibility since May 2001 to "buy" the missing years....).
