Hi Olivier,

> I think that what I should apply for is an H1-B visa, but I am not even
sure about it.

do you want to come over here and look for a job here, or get a job and
then come here? Sounds silly, but makes a big difference, at least that's
how it looks like to me.

I will tell you my story: I was looking for an industry internship as a
diploma project from EPFL (ETH Lausanne) last automn ... a friend of mine
worked here at Cisco Systems. I sent my resume, somebody called me back,
and the next thing I know is that I got some form to apply for a J-1
(TRAINEE) visa ... which I quickly got. The company "sponsored" it, which
means they contract an agency (COUNCIL) to do it.

When I became regular employee a short time ago, the company offered to
work on obtaining a REGULAR H1 visa. Again, they would do all the work, and
pay the money, which I think for H1 is quite high, is that correct? (I am
not in a hurry to update my J-1 to an H-1, but that's another story.)

My 2% .. anybody anything else to add?

Bye,
Michael
